Press Release: 2021 National Honor Society Induction
On October 27, 2021, the Highland chapter of the National Honor Society inducted 59 new members. Our keynote speaker, an honor chosen by the executive board of the NHS, was Mr. Kirk Essenpreis, a seventeen year staff member of HCUSD 5. He not only works tirelessly to keep the school clean and running smoothly, but he also inspires the students and staff with his positive attitude, especially this year as he fights against lung cancer. Members must be juniors or seniors, must have a G.P.A of at least 4.75 on the 5.0 scale, must be active at school and in the community, and must show a commitment to serving others. In all, there are just over 100 members in the chapter.
To continue their membership, students must exhibit good character and must maintain a GPA of 4.75. Students also complete a minimum number of service hours each school year. Students in the National Honor Society volunteer for the Special Olympics and with the HACSM food pantry, and they assist with various Highland community activities throughout the year, such as the recent Flugel Fest and the upcoming Make-A-Wish Walk at the Highland Square. This February, we will embark on our 6th annual fundraiser for the Special Olympics Polar Plunge at Carlyle Lake.
Please see the attached pictures from the induction ceremony.
