Sharon Schmitz has been teaching for over 22 years at HMS, serving as our 8th grade science teacher on Team 8 Red. In her spare time she enjoys Teaching yoga, running, walking, biking, hiking, and swimming. She also enjoys spending time with her family, especially her five but soon-to-be six grandkids. Mrs. Schmitz loves being outdoors enjoying nature especially when sitting on her back patio in the morning drinking her morning coffee. Dots are her favorite candy but she also enjoys anything with dark chocolate. Something you may not know about Mrs. Schmitz is that she can sing! What she enjoys most about teaching is seeing her students have those ah ha moments being creative and solving problems with projects in her classroom. Thanks Mrs. Schmitz for all of your hard work.

Mrs. Miller, our ELA teacher on Team 7 Red, has been teaching for 21 years. In her time off, she loves watching football, spending time with friends & family, and Cooking & Baking. Milk Duds, Pizza, and Twizzlers are some of her favorites. Something that you may not know about Mrs. Miller, is that she played volleyball in college and she is a grandma! According to Mrs. Miller the best thing about teaching is getting to see all the different student personalities and watching them change academically and personally throughout 7th grade.

Mrs. Leslie Gurley has been teaching for over 12 years working as a Special Education teacher. In her spare time, she enjoys cooking, watching tv, gardening, going for walks, and playing cards. Mrs. Gurley loves sweet treats including zero, butterfinger, and payday. One of Mrs. Gurley’s favorite thing to do is ride roller coasters. She loves teaching here at HMS because her students put a smile on her face every single day. Thanks Mrs. Gurley for all that you do to help are kids achieve success.
