Mrs. Erin Smith, 7 Black ELA, has been teaching for 7 years. In her free time, she enjoys hiking, reading, kayaking, and basically anything outside. Ice cream and Reese's Peanut Butter Cups are two of Mrs. Smith’s favorites and she could also eat pizza each and every day. One thing that may surprise you about Mrs. Smith is that she has kayaked over a waterfall. What she enjoys most about teaching is when students share their unique ideas and perspectives especially about stories they are reading. It shows that they are growing and expanding their minds. She also loves reading their creative writing assignments because she gets to see glimpses into her their true personality. Thanks for all that you do to help our students grow, Mrs. Smith.

Mrs. Tarah Rottmann, our new social worker at HMS, has been in education for 8 years. In her spare time, she loves running races with friends, spending time with her family, playing with her dogs, camping, boating, and being on the beach! Some of her favorites are Ski, Chinese food, Imo's, and Whatchamacallits. When asked what she like best about HMS, Mrs. Rottmann said, “I love being a part of the HMS family and I am happy to get to meet and support the amazing students and staff here. We all have times where life gets overwhelming and stressful. I enjoy building the trust and rapport with the school community so they know there is always someone they can talk to, ensuring a feeling of safety in the building. Emotional and relational regulation are the backbone of a healthy and positive school environment!” Thanks, Mrs. Rottmann for all that you do to support our students and staff at HMS.

Parents: Don't forget, if you ordered a candy gram for your student, today is the last day to pay for them. We will be in the office to collect money from 8a-12p & 1-3p. Thank you!
Tryout times for HMS boys basketball have changed for 6th, 7th & 8th grade. 6th grade will be 5:15 - 6:30 pm. 7th & 8th grade will be 6:30 - 8:00 pm. This change will be for both tryout days on 2/4 & 2/5.
Today our region was moved to phase 4 so our middle school athletics now can have full practices and play games. All game schedules are updated on the school athletic website. As of right now our conference is not allowing fans because the schools in the conference do not have the proper space to allow fans. Each school is working on a way to stream games live for the parents. We are also looking at other alternatives to where fans can come watch games. Please be patient as we are doing all we can to make this happen for the kids to play and let the parents watch games.
Again, there will likely be more changes as we go forward. Please be assured that we will do what we can to allow students to have the best possible experiences while keeping them as safe as possible.
More Team 8 Red High Honor Roll and Honor Roll recipients. Congratulations and keep up the good work!!!

Though the pandemic has affected many things, Highland choral students still keep singing. As they say, “The show must go on.” To help support the efforts of the students and directors, the Highland Choral Parents Association will be hosting a socially distanced fundraiser, the Big Cinn Cinnafun event. Supporters can order cinnamon rolls from Chris Cakes in St. Louis. The online store is open now at https://chriscakesstl-hihsc.itemorder.com/sale . Orders will be available for drive-through pick up at HHS from noon to 2 p.m. on Saturday, February 13. One hundred percent of all cash donations, Extra Dough on the online store, will go directly to the choral students.
Tuesday, February 2nd is Team 7 Black's turn to purchase candy grams during advisory and ELP. Don't forget your money. Thanks!
